Powerit Solutions Introduces New Optimization Service

Powerit Solutions recently announced a new optimization service that is designed to refine and tune customers' settings to wring more energy savings from the company's Spara EMS. The advanced energy management system is intended to allow energy-intensive businesses to control energy use for savings and sustainability through demand control, demand response programs, dynamic pricing optimization, and energy efficiency.

Enabled by Powerit's recent Spara 2.4 upgrade, the new service brings the cleantech firm's best practices in demand management to the fore while allowing plant managers to outsource the fine-tuning of their Spara EMS system.

Powerit's in-house energy engineers will remotely provide five coordinated services through the plan. Beta customers trying out the new service have projected additional savings of up to $35,000 a year.

The new service reviews Spara settings in light of customers' automation systems performance and any new equipment, changing utility rates, and production needs, then modifies settings to maximize savings and production. The analysis and adjustments are all done remotely by Powerit thanks to the Spara 2.4 upgrade, announced in March, which began the product's migration into a cloud-based, or hosted, industrial energy platform.

Comments Jim Bernard, president and CEO of The Bronze Craft Corporation of New Hampshire, "Powerit Solutions' optimization service made it easy for our company to visualize and attain additional electrical power savings that we didn't think were possible."

Founded in 1944, Bronze Craft specializes in custom castings and manufactures high-quality, nonferrous casting products, including window hardware. Bronze Craft uses Spara for demand control; the Spara system automates the company's energy usage of four copper furnace power supplies and two aluminum furnace power supplies for a total load of 1,200 kW. The new optimization service reduced the energy management system's setpoint, or the peak demand level that the system will allow. Bronze Craft is saving more money on electricity due to this lower peak demand level, while preserving production and quality.

Powerit advises at least semi-annual settings reviews due to seasonal utility rate changes and the fact that equipment mixes, and production needs and processes, tend to evolve. The new service balances production requirements and energy expenses, and it includes load constraint review and updates. It also includes DR event simulation testing and live support during actual DR events, which is intended to give customers peace of mind.
