National Survey: Americans Willing to Embrace New Energy Behaviors to Affect Change
In the survey commissioned by GE, 79 percent of respondents said they would adjust their energy consumption habits and behaviors in the short term to effect change long term, quite possibly because most of them (72 percent) believe that how they generate and use energy today could actually harm the economic growth of the country. Sixty-three percent noted they would work with their power company to influence change in consumption habits.

EDSA, UC San Diego, and Viridity Energy Introduce Next-Generation Smart Grid
Currently, UCSD along with project partners, Viridity Energy and EDSA Power Analytics, are developing a fully functional, protocol compliant, master controller system with an optimizer that is designed to permit bundling from any source within a community the distributed generation, storage and loads that are "behind the meter" into a single, virtual "in front of the meter" entity that is a fully dispatchable in the organized capacity, energy and ancillary services markets.

Lakeland Awards $13 Million Smart Grid Contract to SAIC
Under the contract, SAIC will be responsible for the management, implementation, and integration of an Oracle Lodestar meter data management system; advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) headend systems from Sensus; 124,000 residential electric meters; and 5,000 home area network (HAN) devices.

ComEd Tests Options for Engaging Customers in Smart Grid
Smart meters have been installed in nine I-290 Corridor communities in the greater Chicago area: Bellwood, Berwyn, Broadview, Forest Park, Hillside, Maywood, Melrose Park, Oak Park, River Forest, and the Humboldt Park area.
The evaluation program will last one year, after which ComEd will make recommendations to the Illinois Commerce Commission about smart grid technology adoption.

Nebraska Public Power District Drives Peak Consumption Down 64%
NPPDD found that a real-time altering system that utilizes text messages over standard cell phones
was quickly adopted by hundreds of industrial users within its service area. The utility reports it
regularly measured a reduced load of over 50% during high-cost load periods following text
notification to its customers.
