Session Abstract
11:00 - 11:30 am EDT
Case Study of Hybrid WAN Deployment for WISP and Internal Communications
Effective communication is critical to today's utility infrastructure in order to stay ahead of current trends. While older, less reliable means have been used in the past, they are not effective in keeping up with the more real-time data demands required today. These factors as well as the need to expand our growing WISP business propelled us to build a much more robust hybrid WAN which could deliver on these goals. Today our Cooperative operates a WISP system which serves over 3300 subscribers in a ten-county region and still provides the backbone necessary to overlay a secure private WAN. This WAN facilitates the exchange of data for all of our smart grid functionality, including AMI, SCADA, Wifi Hotspots, voice radio, remote PCs, etc. The goal of this presentation is to provide a case study discussion of our system build out and lessons learned.
Note: For quality purposes, this presentation was pre-recorded on May 1 for initial broadcast during
this V-Summit. The live Q&A discussion on May 17 will begin at 11:35 am EDT and go for approximately 10 minutes.
