Session Abstract
9:00 - 9:30 am EDT
Making the Business Case for Smart Grid Success: Case Studies and Lessons Learned
As the initial smart grid deployments begin to move from implementation to optimization, best practices in how utilities are maximizing the value of smart grid capabilities are beginning to emerge. In this presentation by a veteran of two comprehensive, independent evaluations of smart grid deployments (SmartGridCity for Xcel Energy and the largest Midwest deployment for the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio), participants will improve their understanding of the most commonly-encountered barriers to value maximization and what utilities are doing to address them. Generalized findings from the evaluations and associated research will be presented in the context of customer economic, reliability, and service benefits. Special attention will be paid to investor-owned utilities, which are increasingly documenting optimization efforts and quantifying benefits to help reduce cost recovery risk. Muni or IOU, regulator or project manager, you won't want to miss this valuable information and perspective.
Note: For quality purposes, this presentation was pre-recorded on May 18 for initial broadcast during
this V-Summit. The live Q&A discussion on May 31 will begin at 9:35 am EDT and go for approximately 15 minutes.
